Opal Documentation
Opal™: Best Practices for IBIS-AMI Modeling
The Opal document is offered as a resource in the conversation between model developers, EDA vendors and model users. It offers practical suggestions and solutions for the quality, usability, portability, performance, and functionality of IBIS-AMI models. The suggestions and solutions offered in this document fall into two categories:
- Best Practices: Proven techniques for developing & validating quality models, based on practical experiences with dozens of real-world models
- Advanced features: Methods for improving the accuracy of IBIS-AMI based simulations that are fully compliant with the IBIS 5.0 standard and IBIS 5.0 parser.
Opal(TM): Best Practices for IBIS-AMI Modeling
Some sections of this document may find their way into the IBIS standard, while others are more a matter of workmanship suitable to a modeling cookbook. Model users should encourage suppliers to follow practices they see as valuable; and it is hoped that model developers will desire to implement these practices as a matter of sound engineering.
SiSoft’s goals in developing and publishing this document are:
- Ensure high quality IBIS-AMI model development
- Ensure IBIS-AMI model portability
- Enable standardization of advanced features
The Opal™ document is made available to the IBIS Committee as part of SiSoft’s ongoing commitment to IBIS as an open standard. Opal is declared as a SiSoft trademark to provide SiSoft recognition for its contributions in this area.
